Trafalgar Square rally for Zimbabwe
Church groups will be joining campaigners in Trafalgar Square from 1 - 4 pm tomorrow, to support a rally against human rights abuses in Zimbabwe. The rally is organised by ACTSA (Action for Southern Africa, the successor to the Anti-Apartheid Movement) and is supported by British trade unionists, who are appalled at the brutal treatment of fellow trade unionists in Zimbabwe.
The rally which marks international women's day, has a particular focus is on women in Zimbabwe. ACTSA has invited high profile speakers including the Zimbabwean trade unionists, Lovemore Matombo and Lucia Matibenga, both of whom were brutally assaulted for peaceful in September last year and Kate Hoey, Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwean protest singer Viomak will also feature.
