| ::Take Necessary Measures To Ensure Musicians Operate Ethically - ZUM |
The Herald (Harare)
July 21, 2006
THE Zimbabwe Union of Musicians (ZUM) urged the Government to take
necessary measures to ensure that musicians operate ethically and
avoid abusing privileges.
The union's concern was prompted by a story about a Canadian-based
Zimbabwean musician whose music carries death wishes for President
Mugabe.
"The purpose of music is to be entertaining, informative, educational,
uniting and harmonising without being vindictive and wishing a
popularly elected Head of State dead," the statement said.
The union was appalled that some Zimbabwean musicians could be so
immoral, unethical and lose their sense of humanity and principles.
"Music should be the most profound in entertainment among the arts and
musicians should be guided by morality, ethics and professionalism.
"A musician cannot be so satanic and abuse her privileged position as
to churn out albums attacking the person of a democratically,
popularly and legitimately elected leader and wish that he were dead." |
